Found our way to Camp Turkeyville in Marshall, MI. Despite the name, it was very nice and charming. Nice family RV resort. Perfect to just relax and have fun in the pool, enjoy a campfire and roast marshmallows. Short bike ride to see the turkeys, goats and donkey. We were much farther west in the Eastern time zone so the sun didn't set until about 10PM. Kids were up late but it was all worth it to see an amazing display of fireflies hanging out at the cornfield at the edge of the park. Jessica filled us in on the ins and outs of firefly displays. Apparently, she had learned all about it at school. Hannah was hoping to catch some but no luck. They were too quick.
Sunday, 6/30 - Mom gets to drive for the first time. A little nerve wracking at first but you get used to it. My deal with Pete is that I will drive straight 2 lane highways with corn fields - Western Illinois and Iowa were the perfect place! Lots of corn! And, tornados! We pulled into a park in Amana, IA and found ourselves a under a tornado warning. It was very scary. I have never seen such dark clouds and so much lightning in my life. I love thunder storms but this was the most intense weather I've ever seen. That coupled with the possibility that a tornado could turn up anywhere made for a very uneasy few hours. The girls were really scared for about half an hour until the tornado warning expired. Then they went to bed. Pete and I were about to go to sleep when a second round of thunder rolled in, worse than the first. I still can't believe the girls didn't wake up. The RV was a rockin! It all worked out. Woke up Monday AM and started to head north and west to South Dakota. The entire state of Iowa is under severe thunder storm warnings. We seem to be avoiding it. To sum up our Iowa experience - corn and storm!
Thanks for updates! We have enjoyed reading your blog-sounds like you're having a great time! Mrs. Searles and Ms. Robinson
