Priest Lake, ID

Sometimes having no clue is actually a really good thing. We pulled into Priest Lake, ID and saw a spot on the map called Luby Cove that looked nice and had a National Forest campground.  We figured we'd drive through and a get a first come, first served site.  The sign said the camp was full, but we had learned before that sometimes you get lucky and some is leaving or has left and they haven't changed the sign yet.

Wouldn't you know, we pulled the corner right as someone was exiting a spot right across from the path to the lake.  We pulled and though, how nice.  That afternoon we found out just how nice it was! Apparenly, people have better luck playing the lottery. The spots we were in are in such high demand, most of the campers coordinate with their friends to all go online at midnight 6 months before they want their reservation since that it the earliest you can reserve a spot.  Multiple people, with multiple devices all hitting refresh and trying to get a spot. The spots usually sell out within minutes. And, if someone books it for two weeks, you have to wait two weeks to try again because otherwise it is more than 6 months from your reservation.

We just happened to pull in as someone with a reservation was moving to a different spot in the park (farther from the lake) so they could stay longer than their reservation.  By the end of our 3 days there the whole park new our story and we had make some great friends. Dave, Tae & Sidney Schlicht from Spokane, WA were even kind enough to take us out on their boat for some fun wake boarding and tubing.

What a great place!
